Chaos In Order

Cities grow in units, considering this, we can begin to visualise how a future city may begin to look; a body made up of architectural modules. Taking this into account, I created relief sculptures that intend to represent the way architecture grows modularly, displaying miniature models of buildings. Following the inspiration of Slava Thisset, I angled coloured complementary lights reminiscent of police sirens to further enhance the chaotic city atmosphere. I then experimented with nuclear green lights combined with the UV lights to create this alien-like ambience about the work.

The series is entitled ‘Chaos in Order’ to hint at the combination of planned systems and zoning within cities along with the busy life of the citizens that inhabit. The photographs worked from to produce the paintings aim to encompass these two aspects within the geometric composition of juxtaposing diagonals. I became inspired by the geometric, almost computerised quality of Charley Peter’s paintings and her collaboration with UV artist James Petrucci.

The canvases display 3 dimensional sculpture yet with the combination of bold colours, it creates this shifting sense of depth and 2 dimensionality across the surface. The large scale paintings incorporate ultraviolet paint to inform the viewer of the futuristic intentions of the pieces. Under a UV lamp the paintings begin to glow and display an entirely different appearance within the same surface.

These works and others from the series are available for sale. Please enquire by emailing lottieeastwell96@gmail.com.
